Getting to Know Suanny Serpas
Suanny Serpas is a healthy living social media personality from Honduras based in Los Angeles. Loved and followed by many, Suanny is a woman of many facets who's main purpose is to bring light unto others through her personal way of living. Cook, health/fitness instructor, model, speaker and writer of sorts, she tells us a little more about herself and how to lead a more positive life!
First let's get to know Suanny! What do you do and where are you from?
I am a plethora of things. I wear many hats, have many talents. I motivate people and inspire them to find the strength they have within themselves and guide them through their personal growth. To keep it short for the readers, (since i am a deep person), I am a health and fitness instructor. Creatively, I perform. I love acting. I love modeling.
I am from the beautiful 5 star Central American country - Honduras. I was born there and raised in California.
How has back home (your upbringings) affected your way of living?
Geez, it has certainly kept me grounded completely. I was raised by my grandmother, my mother was mom and dad to me and played both roles to the T. Where I come from is a humbling country, a third world if you will. Where you live day to day barely making it. My grandparents grew up very poor. Coming from that as a Latina and having my mother strive for the better has only passed the torch down to me to be nothing but the best in life.
How has it "affected" me you say? It has created a foundation of gratitude, hard work, faith, and humility within me. It is how I approach every situation.
What is Suannism? I see you use it on your blog and social media accounts.
So "Suannism" is a term I decided to go with long, long ago. I saw that the principles in which I lived people pretty much followed. I created a brand around my lifestyle beliefs. #Suannism represents anything healthy, wholesome, nutritious, and even spiritual.
Why are you passionate about leading a healthy life?
It literally saved my own life. I was headed the wrong route in my early 20's. Super lost, hanging with the wrong crowd, searching for the wrong ideas of happiness. So becoming such a health and fitness enthusiast literally healed, helped, and reconstructed my life. It just makes so much sense to me in everything I represent.
What are some small steps someone can take to being healthier?
A healthy approach is important. Therefore, a healthy mind is what needs to be established firsthand. You can definitely start as small as intaking more water throughout the day. I like my gallon a day challenge. But one can do any small change, and in the long run it makes a big difference. Get out for a hike, run the extra mile, eat clean and practice patience.
What is your workout regimen?
Personally my workout regimen is dependent on what my personal goals are. I love challenging myself. Some days I want to connect with nature and disconnect from the day to day, so I'll go for a hike, a run at the beach, try out a new class. So, it varies but I am always active. Five to six days a week in the gym minimum.
You ooze positivity on all your pages! What keeps you so positive and motivated?
God. Life. We are given another opportunity to make the best out of the time we have here on Earth each time we wake up. I try and take full advantage of my day. I stay productive. I have great friends that keep me grounded. I used to be quite the opposite. I used to wish someone would motivate me, push me and understand me.
So I became everything I always wished to have and be for others. I have a strong spiritual foundation that keeps me aligned. Not easy every time, but hey, I get through my rough patches and in turn use it to help others.
You mentioned helping others in a prior convo. How are you involved with your community?
Well, being a health and fitness instructor I am a walking, talking motivator. So helping my clients stay in line. I have also been blessed to work with the youth at different churches and through my testimony be a support system. I plan on doing much more and have plenty up my sleeve but helping orphans is one of my future projects which I have already been able to develop.
How has your modeling career shaped your mentality?
It has taught me to always be ready for a call. Always on my feet, staying consistent and working hard. This modeling industry can be quite dark, if you don't know who you really are. You will compete with others and pick at your flaws for days. But what you have to realize is that you're getting paid for your personality because as beautiful as you can be, a bad attitude can kill your next opportunity. It’s shaped me in a way where I feel a sense of responsibility with the platform I am given. There’s tons of young girls that look up to this career. It's a responsibility I have to motivate young girls to go after their dreams all while staying humble and genuine.
What advice would you give someone aspiring to enter the modeling (or entertainment) industry?
Stay consistent, work hard, don't give up, keep a small (tiny) circle of people who support you all around. This industry will force you to develop a thick skin, after all, you are going door to door knocking for opportunities. Stay in your lane, be you! You'll see that with time, people will gravitate to what you have to uniquely offer.
